Q1: Does Safe Travels International cover coronavirus?

Safe Travels International can cover for COVID-19 and will be treated the same as any other eligible medical condition so long as the virus is contracted after the policy effective date and you have departed from the country of residence. Q2: Does the Safe Travels International plan cover for coronavirus testing?

Safe Travels International will only cover for COVID-19 testing if the policyholder is experiencing symptoms and the test is ordered by an attending physician for diagnostic purposes. COVID-19 tests to meet travel requirements will not be covered.

Q3: Does the Safe Travels International plan cover for the coronavirus vaccine/boosters?

The Safe Travels International plan does not cover for the COVID-19 vaccine/booster, but will cover COVID-19 treatment and services the same as any other eligible condition if contracted after the policy effective date. Preventative care related to COVID-19, like vaccines/boosters is not covered under the policy. Please sign in to your account to view your plan-specific documents for any limits or exclusions.

Q4: Does the Safe Travels International plan provide quarantine coverage?

The Safe Travels International plan does offer a quarantine coverage benefit. Quarantine coverage for this plan falls under the “Trip Delay” benefit. The quarantine benefit can provide a policyholder a fixed monetary amount to cover additional expenses while ordered to quarantine. Please review the policy documents for limits and exclusions.

Q5: What information do I need to purchase this plan?

You will need names, coverage duration, date(s) of birth, home country address, and a valid credit card.

Q6: What if I am traveling to multiple countries, will I be covered?

Coverage will be provided in all eligible countries visited with the exception of your Home Country and any restricted countries listed in the policy documentation. Coverage will only be offered within the policy start and end dates. Please note: If any part of your trip includes the United States, please select it as your destination country.

Q7: Which doctor or hospital can I go to?

There is no PPO Network for the Safe Travels International plan. The insured person can visit any doctor or hospital of his/her choice.

Q8: Can I extend the plan, if I plan to stay longer?

Yes, if you buy the plan initially for more than 5 days, you can extend the policy. You would need to extend the plan at least two days before the policy expires.

Q9: Is there a waiting period for coverage to begin on my travel medical plan?

Coverage will begin on the date selected and once the policyholder has left their home country. The policy will only cover for conditions that occur after the policy effective date.

Q10: Will my Safe Travels International plan be extended /renewed automatically?

No, your Safe Travels International plan won't be extended or renewed automatically. You have to sign into your account online and activate the extension or renewal yourself. Not all plans are extendable or renewable, so be sure to review your policy terms and conditions for eligibility.

Q11: When will I receive my ID card?

The print out of the on-line buying receipt/virtual ID card is the proof of insurance and can be used as an ID card. Additionally, you will be emailed the ID card that you can print and take to the doc/hospital. Also, when filling out the online application, you have the choice of getting supplemental information and ID card in the mail. If you would like to receive the ID card and plan details by mail then make sure to choose "yes" for mailed ID card. You should receive your insurance package at your mailing address within 5-10 business days of purchase.

Q12: Can I cancel the policy and get a refund after purchase?

If the policy is cancelled before the start date, a full refund is available. After start date, refund is available only if you do not need to visit the doctor, and there is no claim on file. A prorated refund for the unused number of days is refunded. A $25 cancellation fee applies.

Q13: Does this plan have travel coverage?

Yes, Safe Travels International Insurance has on flight coverage from home country to the host country as well as back to home country. This coverage will only apply if the flight days fall during the plan effective dates. If applicable, make sure to select the start date when the insured leaves the home country (U.S. CST) and select the end date the day they arrive home country on the trip back (CST). This plan does not provide coverage for travels to the USA.

Q14: Do I have to pay up front at the doctors office or will they bill the insurance company directly?

The billing process is at the discretion of the provider. They can either ask the insured person to pay up front, or can bill the insurance company directly. Usually for bigger bills like hospitalization, surgery etc., they tend to bill the insurance company directly. For smaller situations, like doctor consultation, they are more likely to ask the insured person to pay first. However, for any claims to be processed, the insured person has to follow the claim process and send in the claimant information form to the insurance company. This would be applicable even if the providers directly bill the insurance company.

Q16: When I buy this plan, do I need to make the full payment at once or do I have the option of paying it on a monthly basis?

Based on the desired coverage length you have selected, you have to make the full payment all at once.
Since this plan is extendable, you can extend it at any time before the policy expires. There is no extension fee.

Q17: I am traveling with a friend or domestic partner. Can we both be on the same application?

Yes. One is listed on the form as Applicant and the other is Adult #2.

Q18: I want to purchase insurance for more then one visitor. Should I purchase two separate policies for them or have a combined policy?

The benefits and costs do not differ if you buy individually or combined policies. If the visitors have different travel plans (might be coming together but leaving on different dates, etc.) it is recommended to buy separate policies.

In addition, having separate policies gives you more flexibility for extensions and cancellations.

Q19: I am traveling and I am pregnant. Will your plan cover me?

Yes, the Safe Travels International plan covers for emergency medical treatment for pregnancy up to $2,500. Please check the plan description of coverage for details of the coverage.

Q20: Are pre-existing conditions covered by Safe Travels International?

Like all other travel insurance policies, the Safe Travels International plan does not cover for pre-existing conditions, but it offers coverage for an unexpected recurrence of a pre-existing condition up to $20,000 for those under the age of 65. For ages 65 and above, coverage is up to $10k.

Q21: When does my coverage start and end on my travel medical insurance plan?

Coverage on the travel medical insurance plan will begin on the date of departure (12:01am CST) and once the traveler has left their home country. Coverage areas are anywhere outside one's' home country as long as the policy is active. The coverage will end immediately once the traveler has entered back into their home country and at 12:01am CST the day after the last date of coverage.

Q22: Why is my premium $10 when the daily rate calculated is less?

To purchase a Safe Travels International policy, the minimum premium must be at least $10. If your total premium for the duration of coverage is $7, you will be charged $10 to meet the requirement. Q23: Why are there state restrictions and will it impact me if I visit one of those states?

Each insurance company may have their own state-specific regulations on where plans can be sold. These state restrictions only impact residents from those specific states from purchasing these plans. However, if you are traveling to the United States, you will be covered in all 50 states during your active policy period.

Q24: I'm traveling to multiple countries and inputted all the destinations during the quoting process. Why does my policy documents only list one destination country?

Only the primary destination in the application will be listed on the policy documents, but rest assured that all other eligible inputted countries will be covered during the active policy period.

Q25: My credit card expired how do I receive my refund?

If your original payment method is invalid, please call the insurance company directly at 888-301-9289 to update/edit your refund method and preferred credit card details over the phone.

Q27: Can I cancel only one person from the policy?

You cannot remove one person from the policy if other travelers are included. We recommend letting the current policy lapse with all travelers or canceling and repurchasing for the remaining travelers as per the policy terms.
